Displaying Your Complete Task List

Your Task List is currently set to show only those tasks due today (or overdue as of today) regardless of what date you select on the date selector. You can easily change your task list settings by following these steps:

  • Open the PracticeMaster Daily Calendar
  • Right click anywhere on your task list
  • Left click on “Properties”
  • Ensure that you’re on the “Tasks” tab (top of the dialog box)
  • Choose “All Incomplete Tasks”
  • Click on OK

*You may have to close and then re-open your calendar to see the changes.
Also, experiment with the “Daily Report” found on your main menu. This report will allow you to show events and tasks for a selected date range.

Subject: PM Master Journal File

Click on the “Journal” icon on your PracticeMaster Main Menu to see a list of every journal record saved in PracticeMaster regardless of client. This is a good place to look if you think that you’ve saved an e-mail to the wrong Client ID (or no Client ID) and need to change it.

Remember that you can sort the list by any column, and that once you sort the list by that column you can anchor your cursor in the list and then perform a search.

The Filter Function also works here: Click on the funnel on the toolbar, be sure the filter is set to “Text Search” and then enter the text you wish to search for.

Subject: Returning to the Current Date in the PM Calendar

Did you know that pressing the [HOME] key while in the Daily Calendar in PracticeMaster takes you to the current date?

Very helpful if you’ve accidentally advanced too many months or years forward!

(Thank you Natalie at BHM)

Subject: PracticeMaster Daily Report

Hello Everyone!
I mentioned the “Daily Report” in my last e-mail, but wanted to expound a little: This report will display the calendar comments and your client information.
  • Find the Daily Report on the Main Menu or by right-clicking on the daily calendar display
  • When you select the report, look toward the bottom of the options screen and make sure there are checkmarks next to: “Calendar Comments” and “Client Work Description”
  • Remember that you can preview the report as opposed to printing it
  • As you move your cursor around the report, you will see yellow highlights, double click on a highlighted item to open the record. You can make changes to the record and re-save it

Subject: PracticeMaster/Outlook Tip

Make sure PracticeMaster is open and that you’re logged in before clicking on the PM Journal button in Outlook!

If you try to click on the PM Journal button and PracticeMaster is not already running, it seems to take FOREVER to load! It’s a good idea to get in the habit of opening PM first thing in the morning.

Have a Great Holiday!!!

Subject: PracticeMaster Tips: How to Make a Screen Shot (in any software)

A very helpful little trick for documenting error messages, taking notes (like those that I use for my training materials), or illustrating an idea having to do with something that you can see on your screen.

Say, for example, you’re receiving an error message in PracticeMaster while trying to save an e-mail to the PM Journal. Rather than picking up your pen and writing the error message, follow the steps below to make a screen shot:

  • Press the “Print Screen” button on your keyboard (found at the top, right corner)
  • Open MS Word or WordPerfect
  • Paste (Edit/ Paste)

From here you can either save the screen shot to attach to an e-mail, or print it out. You can paste the image right in the body of an e-mail, but sometimes they’re a bit big and difficult to work around.

I find them extremely helpful when clients are e-mailing support questions to me, it also means much less typing for them!

Subject: PracticeMaster Tip: Resize, Move or Close the Snapshot

The “Snapshot” is the summary or profile that you see from the Client or Related Parties list in PracticeMaster.

It offers a quick look at the information found within the file for whatever client/ matter or related party you have highlighted in the list.

You can easily resize the snapshot making it bigger or smaller, or turn it off completely. To resize or close the snapshot:

  • Move your mouse pointer to the left edge of the snapshot
  • When the pointer changes to a double-headed arrow, click your left mouse button and hold it down
  • Drag the border to the right to make the snapshot smaller, or to the left to make it bigger
  • To “Close” the snapshot, drag the border as far to the right as you can

*When you are satisfied with the new size, release the mouse button
To Move the snapshot:

  • Right Click anywhere on the snapshot
  • Choose “Snapshot” (left click)
  • Choose the either: Close/ Right/ Bottom by left clicking on your selection

Your new settings should be permanently saved for you.
Have a good one!

Subject: PracticeMaster Mystery Solved! (Required Fields)

If you had existing records in your PracticeMaster database, and then we made a particular field “Required” (such as the Statute of Limitations field) then you may notice that when you open a record where the required field is blank, sometimes you’re prompted to enter the required information and sometimes you’re not.

The reason: If you open the record, and click on any field in the record (for any reason), then the record is considered “edited” even if you didn’t change anything. If you try to exit at this point you’ll be forced to enter the required data before exiting.

If you open the record and don’t click on any fields, you can exit the record without having to enter the required data.
Solve a mystery for anyone?
Have a great day!!

Subject: PracticeMaster Warning: The size of the history file is approaching the specified limit…

If you log into PracticeMaster and see the warning below, go ahead and click the “Do Not Show Again” checkbox.
Tips and Tricks
PracticeMaster maintains a history or audit file that tracks activity in the system. This warning is simply telling you that the file is full, but that as new information is entered into it, older information will purge.

This will in no way affect the data that you are maintaining in PracticeMaster, it only only pertains to the audit file.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
Thank you!!
